Mint Gallery Blossoms

It may be Autumn but if you want to feel like it’s Spring again, you must visit Tara Douglas’ Japanese kawaii/’cute’ culture-inspired exhibition at Mint Gallery. Dunedin-raised Tara specialises in creating breathtaking floral installations the like of which we’ve never seen before! The normally plain white walls of the gallery have been colonised by thousands of cherry blossoms and the effect is enhanced by a warm pink haze of low lighting. Incredibly, each flower has been cut, folded and glued by hand. Tara hopes to take us away from the mundane world and into an “uplifting space” or “fantasyland”; this she certainly achieves! Tara is a graduate of Dunedin School of Art and is now completing her Master’s at the Ilam School of Fine Arts, Christchurch. To enjoy more of her work, visit her blog here.

The installation ‘Blossom’ will be running at Mint Gallery, 32 Moray Place, until 3 April.
